Michael Bate worked at Weleda (UK) Ltd in Derbyshire from 1982 to 2012 as Garden Manager, in charge of the 13 acre gardens. Here he was involved in biodynamically growing and then harvesting and making tinctures of plants which were used in the production of anthroposophical and homoeopathic medicines and for some of the cosmetics.
Since then he has deepened his study of Goethean Science (the science of nature) especially of plants in their living, developing and metamorphosing processes, and has spent many years on a project looking at the Umbellifer (Apiaciae) family. Michael also leads plant study days using this participatory science.
